Non- food household items you should not use beyond the expiry date.

We all know the everyday food items that we should not use by their expiry date (Eggs, milk, Bread etc... etc..) but there are other non-food household items you should not use by their expiry date too, some which may surprise you.

Read on where we have put together a list below of the main ones:

1.) Bleach

Bleach will only keep for around 6 months, after that it starts to lose its effectiveness in killing germs.

2.)Washing up Liquid

Your washing up liquid has an expiry date of around one year, once again it effectiveness reduces with time.

3.) Conditioner & Shampoo

A good rule of thumb is to keep an opened bottle for no more than 18 months, and an unopened bottle for no more than three years. At the very least, expired shampoos and conditioners won't work the way they're supposed to. But, you can also run the risk of spreading bacteria onto your scalp, and opening the door for an infection.

4.) Washing Powder & Detergent

Washing powder won’t actually go bad where it may be harmful to you, but we do know its less effective after a certain date. Unopened boxes and bottles will last for about 9 months to a year, where as the opened ones are less useful after 6 months.

5.) Nail Polish

Nail polish will no longer give the perfect colour, consistency, or overall look after approximately two years.

6.) Medicines

All products you get at the chemist have an expiration date and like most of the items on this list, you will want to stick to that date, as it's important that your product is 100% effective.

7.) Batteries

Batteries have an expiry date of approx 10 years, but it’s extremely rare you’ll get 10 years out of your normal every day battery, they will just stop working when the time comes.
